This appears it was not brute force attempts, as the log would show failed login attempts. They just logged right in, first try. Sounds like a web site vulnerability.

See hashcat. :) It is easy to crack those types of hashes these days. Or even just search for the hash in google.

Same applies to all types of hashes. Implementation counts more than which function you choose.

Hm. I wonder if anyone is doing the work to get Android apps runnable on desktop Linux systems. Some googling suggests that at this point, Android-x86 can more or less run in a chroot already...
