Security BY Obscurity is always bad. This article doesn't address this, but rather as an additional tool.

ie, I wouldn't use telnet to control all of my servers and then think i am being secure because the IP addresses are not put in a server-list.txt on each server.

However, using a secure protocol and not providing a network map on each server does provide a level of obscurity.
