Well reading the terms and conditions (example: Catalina) it's not so far fetched that this is being done and it didn't happen suddenly but it was rather a long way coming. The outrage wouldn't have any legal ground. It seems that the issue is rather that the oscp service was down and thus was an annoyance (putting it mildly) instead of functionning as intended. Nothing is ever going to be yours if you don't put enough effort for it to be: in this case it would be an informed decision about what you want and need compared to what's available.
