+1000 for direct file access. Apart from this, I personally find iOS to be an almost perfect platform. But this single omission IMHO cripples it immensely - especially for content creation tasks.
You will never get that from Apple. What's more, you will lose that in OSes from others.
Why? Because file system is not a solution, it's a problem.
"Normal people" don't think in terms of file system, they think about their documents, spreadsheets, photos and movies.
Cooper and others wrote about that years ago.
